Fire in my soul

My devotions recently have been centered around abandoning yourself fully to God. This seems difficult at first glance because there’s just so many facets of life to give over but it is crucial to our spiritual survival. Peter asked Jesus if he should walk across the water to him because he wanted confirmation before committing his life to the storm but how much confirmation had Peter already received that Jesus was indeed the Son of God?

It feels like we are tentative in our relationship with Jesus. We push open the door a crack and peek through but then hesitate. We seem to understand how much our lives would change if we locked eyes on God and walked towards Him and suddenly our passion, our fire, is sputtering and weak.

Set a fire down in my soul
That I can’t contain and I can’t control
I want more of you God, I want more of you God

This song by Will Reagan was exactly what I needed to hear this morning and not just hear but sing. I ask God to set a burning desire in my heart for Him. It is only when we set aside ourselves and shine a light on the Lord of hosts that God’s love is so revealed.

“Holy, holy, holy is the Lord of hosts;
the whole earth is full of his glory!”
Isaiah 6:3
